Mr. Orville Glenn “Snooky” Thomas, of Mount Vernon, Indiana formally of Grayville, Illinois, passed away on Good Friday, April 10, at 2:45 AM, at the Mount Vernon Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.


Orville was born June 1, 1924, the son of Jasper Raymond and Maggie Joiner Thomas, in Springfield Township, rural Mount Vernon. Snooky married Wilma Wood, and they were looking forward to celebrating their 66th anniversary on July 10.


Mr. Thomas graduated from New Harmony High School. Orville retired from Countrymark (Indiana Farm Bureau Oil Company) in 1986, after 35 years of service. He is a life-time member of the Deaconess Auxillary, a long-time member of Pentecostal Assembly of God and Landes Pentecostal Church in Mount Carmel, Illinois and Harvestime Temple, in Mount Vernon, IN. His two biggest thrills in life was doing children’s work at the church, where he directed children worship, and playing Santa at many parties and at the childrens homes. He was a founding board member of the Tri-State Penetcostal Campground.


Mr. Thomas is survived by his wife, Wilma; two sons, Larry and his wife, Phoebe, of Newburgh, and Dale and his wife, Joyce of Mount Vernon; six (6) grandchildren, Brian and his wife, Garsy of Zanesville, IN; Cheryl and Kari Thomas both of Fort Wayne, IN; Jared of Valparaiso, IN; Katelynn Thomas of Lexington, KY, and Brooke Turpin and her husband, Tim of Wheaton, MD; and six (6) great grandchildren, Ty, Ethan, T. J., Aryn, Zoe and Nicole. Orville was preceded in death by his son, Jerry Glenn.


Funeral services will be conducted on Monday, April 13, 2009, at 10:00 AM, at the Harvestime Temple, 101 Roosevelt Drive, Mount Vernon. The family will receive friends and family on Sunday afternoon, from 3:00 – 6:00 PM at the Austin Funeral Home, 1330 E. Fourth Street, Mount Vernon; and one hour prior to services at the church.

In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorials be made to the Special Health and Indigent fund in care of the Austin Funeral Home. Online Condolences may be left at Austinfuneralhome.com
