Norma Jean Frier, 87, of Carmi, passed away on Sunday, February 26, 2017. Norma Jean was born in Shawneetown, IL on January 29, 1930, the daughter of Pete and Alleen (Logsdon) Deitz. She was an active member of the Emmanuel United Methodist Church where she enjoyed being involved in UMW activities, serving on the funeral dinner committee and helping serve dinner to the children on Wednesday evenings. She loved to quilt beautiful quilts for her children and grandchildren.
Norma Jean was preceded in death by her husband of 67 years, Gilbert (Gib) Frier, on June 4, 2015. Surviving are a daughter, Sharon (Jim) Poshard of Danville; a son, Gib (Kathy) Frier of New Berlin; five granddaughters, Shannon (Ken) Mendonca, Vicki (Eddie) Carter, Bethany Poshard, Andrea (Erik) McCubbin and Jessica (Erik) Sanders; seven great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; two brothers, Dean (Cindy) Deitz and Jim Deitz. Norma Jean also was preceded in death by her parents.
Funeral services for Norma Jean Frier, 87, of Carmi, will be at 11:00am on Thursday, March 2, 2017 at Campbell Funeral Home in Carmi with Mike Fields and Pastor Scott Baird officiating. Burial will be in Big Prairie Cemetery near Carmi. Visitation will be from 5:00pm to 8:00pm on Wednesday, March 1, 2017 at Campbell Funeral Home. Memorial contributions may be made in Norma Jean's memory to Emmanuel United Methodist Church Building Fund and will be accepted at Campbell Funeral Home.
