Norma Batteese

     Norma L. Batteese, 87, of Norris City passed away on Friday, March 28, 2025. She was born in Maunie, IL on February 11, 1938 the daughter of Emeart Elvis and Donna Mae (Frymire) James. Norma married James L. Batteese on May 27, 1954 and he preceded her in death on January 15, 1995. She had worked in various factories over the years including the sewing factory in Carmi and popcorn factory in Ridgway. Norma loved to crochet, read and work crossword puzzles, the harder the better.

     Norma is survived by two daughters, Deborah (Junior) Goodman of Farmersburg, IN and Sherry (Jim Fry) York of Hatfield, AR; seven grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; and a special niece and caregiver, Katie Shephard. She was preceded in death by her husband, three sons, Michael, Thomas and James Albert Batteese and six siblings, Leon James, Donald James, Cleatus James, Verda Shepard, Daisy O'Neal and Donna Cox.

     Services for Norma L. Batteese, 87, of Norris City were held at Campbell Funeral Home in Norris City with burial in Westwood Cemetery in Shawneetown. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Norma's memory to Coins for Cancer. Campbell Funeral Home in Norris City was in charge of arrangements.
