Neva Mae Hasara, age 93, of McLeansboro, Illinois went home to heaven on Saturday, February 10, 2024, at Hamilton Memorial Hospital in McLeansboro, Illinois. She was the firstborn daughter of Hobart and Frieda Shelton and was born on August 14, 1930, at the home of her grandparents, James and Minnie May Davis, in Hamilton County, Illinois. Neva married John “Jack” Hasara on July 2, 1976, at St. Clements Catholic Church in McLeansboro, Illinois. She loved being a devoted wife, loving mother, and proud grandmother and spending time with family and friends.
Neva is survived by two sons, Terry (Janet) Smith of Eldorado, IL and Timmy Smith of McLeansboro, IL; two granddaughters, Jennifer (Kyle) Darnell of Evansville, IN and Stephanie Smith of Marion, IL; one sister, Joyce Conner of Elizabethtown, IL; one sister-in-law, Irene Shelton of McLeansboro, IL; two special nieces, Kindra Denham of Elizabethtown, IL and Kay Morris of Harrisburg, IL; five step children, Barbie (Bill) Brunner, Betty (Rich) Brockschmidt, Patricia (Todd) Carnduff, and John (Sandra) Hasara all of Springfield, IL, and Maryann Farrell of Springdale, AR; and numerous step grandchildren, step great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews.
Neva was preceded in death by her husband and parents; daughter-in-law, Kathy Smith; grandson, Kevin Lincoln Smith; brothers and sisters-in-law, Bud & Bonnie Shelton, Donald & Hazel Shelton, and brother Edward Dean Shelton; sister and brother-in-law, Patsy & Ralph Phelps; brother-in-law, Lyle Conner; stepdaughters, Kathy Secrist and Rita Helm; and step grandson, Greg Lowery.
Funeral services to celebrate Neva’s life will be held Saturday, February 17, 2024 at 1:00 p.m. at Campbell Funeral Home in Norris City. Friends may call from 11:00 a.m. until time of service at the funeral home. Burial will be in Mt. Oval Cemetery in Norris City. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made in Neva's memory to your favorite charity or organization and will be accepted at Campbell Funeral Home in Norris City, or may be mailed to 609 W. Main St, Carmi, IL. 62821. Campbell Funeral Home in Norris City is in charge of arrangements.
