Naomi Somers

Naomi Somers, 97, of Mt. Vernon died at 5:00 AM, Tuesday, at Mt. Vernon Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. She was born September 23, 1906 in Griffin, IN daughter of David and Ida (Stoneberger) Majors. She was a ver active member of Harmony Chapel Church of The Nazarene since 1958. She was a cook in area restaurants and had cooked last at Main Street Café in New Harmony. She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Somers in 1958, two grandchildren, Beverly Duncan in 1978 and Phillip Hassell in 1990 and several other family members.
She is survived by three daughters Alice Searcy, Frances Duncan and Elizabeth Hassell all of Mt. Vernon; a son, Virgil Somers, Sr. of Henderson, KY; her sister, Grace Pfister of Mt. Vernon and 16 grandchildren and several great-grand and great-great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews
Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 AM, Thursday, February 26 at Austin Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon, IN with Rev. Andy Burnett and Rev. Harry Sellards officiating. Burial in Maple Hill Cemetery in New Harmony, IN. Friends may call from 4:00 PM until 8:00 PM on Wednesday at Austin Funeral Home, 1330 East Fourth Street, Mt. Vernon, IN.
