Melvin D. “Rudy” York, 88 of Carmi passed away Sunday afternoon September 24, 2017 at Wabash Christian Village. He was born April 10, 1929 in Springerton, the son of Grover Cleveland and Pearl (Siefried) York. He married Betty Jo McGehee on June 30, 1953 in Springerton and she preceded him in death on June 11, 2016.

Rudy was a longtime Roustabout having worked many years for Superior Oil. He enjoyed fishing and hunting. He was a U.S.Army veteran serving in Korea. He was a member of the Carmi V.F.W. Post #3851 and Carmi American Legion Post #224. He was a 60 year member of the Enfield Masonic Lodge #667. He was a member of the Springerton Christian Church.

He is survived by his son, Bruce (Kim) York of Carmi; his daughter Deborah (Mike) Olson of St. Louis; grandchildren, Zachary and Lucas Olson, and Richard, Leslie, Maria and Logan York; great-grandchildren, Carson, Tripp and Layla Jo, and another expected any day. He was preceded in death by brothers, Charles York and Clayton York and sisters, Bernadine Phillips, Violet Smith, Betty Clark, Louise Melvin, Maxine Oliver and Beulah Gentry.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Thursday September 28, 2017 at the Stendeback Family Funeral Home in Carmi with Ron Lamp and Mike Fields officiating. Burial will be in Hammack Cemetery at Springerton. Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. on Wednesday at the funeral home. Military rites will be conducted by the Carmi American Legion and V.F.W.
