Melvin Niekamp

Melvin Niekamp, 84, of Carmi, passed away on Thursday, November 20, 2014 at 8:45 a.m. at his residence. He was born on August 6, 1930 in Carmi, IL, the son of George Henry and Beulah (Brissel) Niekamp. Melvin married Ann Hankins on July 6, 1958 . He was a farmer and carpenter and he especially enjoyed gardening and cooking. Melvin was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean Conflict.

He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Ann Niekamp of Carmi; a daughter and son-in-law, Jo and Henry Bob Haley of Carmi; one grandson, Duff Haley of Carmi; and many loving nieces and nephews. Melvin was preceded in death by a son, Harry Dale Niekamp; and three brothers, Eldon "Bud", Edwin and Robert E. Niekamp.

Funeral services for Melvin Niekamp, 84, of Carmi, will be held on Saturday, November 22, 2014 at 12:00 p.m. at Campbell Funeral Home in Carmi. Burial will be in Concord Cemetery near Carmi. Friends may call on Saturday after 10:00 a.m. until time of service.
