Maxine Mitchell, 85, of Carmi, passed away on Thursday, August 13, 2015 at 5:09 a.m. at Good Samiritan Hospital in Mt Vernon, IL. She was born on October 20, 1929 in Carmi, the dauhter of George Edwin and Verna Irene (Calkin) Niekamp. Maxine married James Edmund Mitchell on December 23, 1947. She was a member of Carmi First Presbyterian Church and a former member of the VFW & American Leion Fund. Maxine had worked at Fashion Shoppe, Graham's, Two Tony's and Mary's Hallmark.
Maxine is survived by her husband of 67 years, Jim of Carmi; two daughters and a son-in-law, Myra and Bob Hudspeth of Burlington, Ontario, Canada and Lisa Gwen Leuellen of Nashville, TN; a son and daughter-in-law, James and Arla Mitchell, Jr. of Benton, KY; a sister and brother-in-law, Shirley and Russell Fulkerson of Carmi; a brother and sister-in-law, Donald Ray and Marion Niekamp of Carmi; three grandchildren, Bob and wife Paula Hudspeth, Jr., Bryan and wife Tanya Hudspeth and Jarad and wife Nicole Mitchell; and four great-grandchildren, Matthew, Breanna, Dagny and Kaitlyn Hudspeth. She was preceded in death by her parents; and a son, Kenneth Mitchell.
Funeral services for Maxine Mitchell, 85, of Carmi will be held at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, August 18, 2015 at Campbell Funeral Home in Carmi. Burial will be in White County Memorial Garden in Carmi. Friends may call at Campbell Funeral Home on Tuesday from 9:00 a.m. until service time.
