Maurice Hamblin

Maurice Hamblin, 76, of Carmi, passed away Sunday, November 25, 2012 at 2:13 a.m. at Wabash Christian Retirement Center in Carmi. He was born November 25, 1936 in Carmi, the son of Fred and Verna (Holtzclaw) Hamblin. Maurice married Glenna Sue Wick May 29, 1982. He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force and worked as a telephone service technician for GTE/Verizon for 32 years. Maurice was a member of First Christian Church in Carmi and served on the Carmi City Council for eight years. He was an avid Nascar and Richard Petty fan, a doting grandfather and loved helping his son-in-law, Mark, with farming.

Maurice is survived by his wife of 30 years, Glenna Hamblin of Carmi; two daughters and sons-in-law, Myra and Mark Hillyard and Amy and Eric Balding all of Carmi; a son and daughter-in-law, Jeff and Debra Hamblin of Albion; six sisters and five brothers-in-law, Vonda and Leon Groves of Carmi, Marie Bell of Harrisburg, Shirley and Ebert French of McLeansboro, Karen and Ray Yates of Carmi, Ellen and Tim Cherry of Carmi, and Lesa and Randy Tharau; one brother and sister-in-law, Gary and Shirley Hamblin of Carmi; five grandchildren, April (Gary) Neafus, Katie (Kyle) Rynkiewich, Kristie Hillyard, Sadie Balding and Ridge Balding; and one great-granddaughter.

He was preceded in death by three sisters, Eleanor Sumner, Bernice Neu, and Sharon Slay; a brother, Frederick "Buck" Hamblin; and a grandson, Matthew Lance.

Funeral services for Maurice Hamblin, 76, of Carmi, will be held Wednesday, November 28, 2012 at 10:00 a.m. at Campbell Funeral Home in Carmi with Steve McClure officiating. Burial will be in Bruce Chapel near Carmi with Military Rites by Carmi VFW and American Legion. Friends may call on Tuesday, from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.

Memorial gifts may be given in Maurice Hamblin's name to First Christian Church in Carmi and will be accepted at Campbell Funeral Home.
