Mary Alice Draper, 96, of Carmi passed away at 12:40 p.m., Tuesday, October 7, 2014 at Wabash Christian Retirement Center in Carmi. She was born December 14, 1917 in Harrisburg, IL the daughter of Joe and Virgie (Johnson) Holden. Mary Alice married Howard George Draper, Jr., on July 26, 1936 and he preceded her in death on July 12, 1989. She was a seamstress and helped her husband operate Drapers Store for Men along with helping run New Way Cleaners in Carmi and Eldorado. Mary Alice was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Carmi and enjoyed playing bridge.
She is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Diann and Jim Williams of Norris City and Janet and Jack Herron of Cape Giraedeau, MO; a son and daughter-in-law, Howard George, III and Karen Draper of Snowmass, CO; eight grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren. She was also preceded in death by a brother Harold Holden.
Graveside funeral services and burial for Mary Alice Draper, 96, of Carmi will be 10:00 a.m, Saturday, October 11, 2014 in North Maple Ridge Cemetery in Carmi with Jim Williams and Mike Fields officiating. A gathering to celebrate the life of Mary Alice will be held from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. Saturday at Operation Now. In lieu of flowers the family request donations be made to Wabash Christian Retirement Center and will be accepted at Campbell Funeral Home in Carm who is in charge of arrangements.
