Martha S. Ogles, age 89 of Leesburg, FL and formerly of Mount Vernon, IN, died Saturday evening May 23, 2009 at the Lane Purcell Hospice House at Sumterville, FL.
She was born October 6, 1919, the daughter of John Howard and Carrie (Campbell) Stallings. She married Paul E. Ogles, Sr. on March 6, 1942 and he preceded her in death on July 11, 2005.
Mrs. Ogles earned her Master's degree in 1959 and was a school teacher for 34 1/2 years, having taught in Arkansas, Tennessee and Maryland before teaching at Hedges Central Elementary School in Mount Vernon for over 20 years.She was a longtime member of the First United Methodist Church of Mount Vernon and served as UMYF leader for some time. She hosted two AFS students from Germany during her tenure in Mount Vernon.
Martha is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Paul E. and Aurelia Ogles, Jr.; two daughters and sons-in-law, Nancy and Russ Johnson of Vero Beach, FL and Rebecca Ann and Wayne Tanton of Cambridge, Maryland; eight grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren; and one sister and brother-in-law, Roy S. and George Campbell of Storrs, CT.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday May 30, 2009 at the First Methodist Church in Mount Vernon with burial in Bellefontaine Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. on Friday at the Austin Funeral Home in Mount Vernon. Online condolences may be left at austinfuneralhome.com.
