Marjorie Burkhart

Marjorie Arlene Burkhart, 100 of Mt. Vernon, passed away Wednesday December 23, 2015 at Mt. Vernon Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. She was born August 19, 1915 in Mt. Vernon, the daughter of Elza and Rachel (West) Utley. She married Joseph Burkhart in 1935 and they were married 66 years he preceded her in death on June 4, 2001.

Marjorie graduated from Mt. Vernon High School in 1933 and attended Indiana University. She had been a member of Mt. Pleasant General Baptist Church since 1927; she was the pianist, Sunday School Teacher and member of the Missionary Society. She was also a member of Gamma Psi chapter of Kappa Kappa Kappa; the General Thomas Posey Chapter of Daughters of the American Revolution and the Coterie Literary Club. Marjorie loved her church and her family.

She is survived by her sons, Larry Joe (Sharon) Burkhart of Mt. Vernon and Ronald Ray (Rose) Burkhart of Greer, S. Carolina; grandchildren, Anna Burkhart, Randy Burkhart, Brett (Claire) Burkhart and Susan (Gus) Davidson, great-grandchildren, Drew (Keely), Zoe and Alex Burkhart, Luke and Rachel Rohlman and Sydney, Pierce, Grant, & Ryan Burkhart .

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. on Wednesday December 30, 2015 at Mt. Pleasant General Baptist Church on Blackford Road, Mt. Vernon with burial in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. on Tuesday at the Stendeback Family Funeral Home at 1330 E. 4th St., Mt. Vernon and from 9 a.m. until services at the church on Wednesday.
