Marion Glenn Short, 91, of Broughton, passed away at 5:00 a.m., Sunday, March 6, 2016 at Wabash Christian Retirement Center in Carmi. He was born May 3, 1924 in Hamilton County, IL the son of Will and Sarah (Mayberry) Short. Glenn married Helen V. Hunt on May 10, 1950. He was a grain and livestock farmer and a U.S. Army Veteran serving during World War II as part of the 88th Blue Devil, 349th Infantry doing reconnaissance in the Mediterranean Sea. Glenn was a member of the Carmi American Legion and VFW.
Glenn is survived by his wife of 65 years, Helen; two daughters and sons-in-law, Nancy and Roger Sutton of Norris City and Peggy and Al Buchanan of Glen Carbon, IL; a son and daughter-in-law, David and Ruth Ann Short of Broughton; 13 grandchildren, Rhonda (Kelly) Forston, Rachel (Joe Gray) Roberson, Kimberly (Cory) Fuqua, Kory (Chelsea) Sutton; Jeremy (Andrea) Short, Jaclyn (Joe) Melton; Jason Short, Jordan (Jordan) Ruppert, Steve (Debbie) Buchanan, Mike (Roz) Buchanan, Sonya (Eric) Whitener, Terry (Sherri) Buchanan and Shane (Ashley) Williams; and 28 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by four brothers, Paul, Clyde, Eugene and Ray Short and five sisters, Lois Young, Lucille Smith, Hazel Schneider, Mae Winter and Idalene Collins.
Visitation for Glenn Short, 91, of Broughton will be held from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, March 8, 2016 at Campbell Funeral Home in Norris City. Graveside services and burial will following in I.O.O.F. Cemetery with Mike Fields officiating and military rites by the Carmi American Legion and VFW. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Southern Illinois, 204 Halfway Rd., Marion, IL 62959 and will be accepted at Campbell Funeral Home in Norris City.
