Marion E. "Red" Bass, 77 of Carmi, passed away Friday, April 10, 2015 at 10:42 p.m. at his residence in Carmi. He was born January 13, 1938 in Pine Bluff, Arkansas, the son of Marion James and Grace (Poteet) Bass. He married Marilyn Jean Klinghagen May 28, 1993. He was a Fireman in Waco, TX; did communication for the Katy Railroad in Texas. He was a Communications Engineer for Atlantic Richfield Oil Company in Prudue Bay, Alaska and retired from ARCO in Texas. He was Baptist by faith. He was a Korean war veteran serving in the Marines and Air Force.
Surviving are his wife of 21 years Marilyn Bass of Carmi; three daughters Alecia Berthelot of Lewisville, TX, Loree Mehrhoff of Carmi, and Dawn and Keith Holland of Carmi; three sons Kelly Bass of Huntsville, TX, James Bass of Forrest City, N.C., and William Mehrhoff of Ft. Stockton, TX; five brothers Roger Collins of League City, TX, David Collins of Nacogdoces, TX, Dale Bass, Johnny Bass of Mesquite, TX, and Ronnie Bass of Sanford, Maine; a sister Sherry Ortega; seven grandchildren Amanda Goff, Amber Rankin, Brandon Cuka, Samantha Braun, Sarah Hahn, Heather Dicky, and Casey Berthelot; nine great-grandchildren and nine nieces and nephews.
Funeral services for Marion E. "Red" Bass, 77, of Carmi will be at 1:30 p.m., Tuesday, April 14, 2015 at Campbell Funeral Home in Carmi. Burial will be in Marshall Ferry Cemetery in Rising Sun with full military rites by the Carmi American Legion and VFW. Friends may call at Campbell Funeral Home on Monday from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m.
