Malien Ray Webster, 81, of Mt. Vernon, IN died at 5:20 AM, Wednesday, November 24, 2004 at Mt. Vernon Nursing & Rehab. Malien was born March 16, 1923 in Posey County son of Jack and Ona (Schisley) Webster. Malien served his country in the US Coast Guard during WW II and had worked at the Evansville Shipyards building LST’s prior to his entry into the Coast Guard. Malien started in the abstract business with Otis Allen Abstract and in 1952 started Malien Webster Abstract in Mt. Vernon. He retired in 1990. Malien was also a land agent with many area oil companies. He was an avid bird watcher and had an interest in people of all ages. Malien was an avid Rose Gardener and was known for his perfect roses. His greatest love was his family and especially his grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, 2 brothers, Charles Proctor and Howard Webster and a great-grandaughter, Paige Elaine Wooten.
He is survived by his son, David Ray Webster and his wife Donna of Evansville, IN; daughters, Sandra Carole Wooten and her husband Joe of Mt.Vernon, and Marcia Anne Kessler and her husband Rick of Mt. Vernon; the Mother of his children Mary Kathryn Webster of Mt. Vernon, his brother, Robert Webster of Mt. Vernon and a sister Maxine Webster of Mt. Vernon, and a friend & companion, Ellen L. Hayden of Mt. Vernon. 7 grandchildren also survive, Daniel Wooten, Sarah Redman, Andrew, Nicholas and Micah Kessler, Joshua Lee and Jennifer Nicole Webster, and 4 great-grandchildren, Allie and Bailey Redman and Jordan and Josie Wooten.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM, Monday, November 29, 2004 at Austin Funeral Home 1330 East Fourth St. Mt. Vernon, IN with Rev. Tom Buffington and Rev. Bob Harrison officiating. Burial will be in Black Cemetery in Mt. Vernon with Military Rites. Friends may call from 3:00 PM until 8:00 PM on Sunday, November 28, 2004 at the funeral home and from 9:00 Am until service time on Monday. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society or the Mayo Clinic.
