Mabel Townsend

Mabel L. (Churchwell) Townsend, 77, of Carmi, passed away Thursday, September 19, 2013 at 8:15 p.m. at Deaconess Hospice Center in Evansville, IN. She was born June 14, 1936 in Carmi, IL, the daughter of James Roe and Laverne (Goff) Churchwell. Mabel married Aaron Lee Townsend August 17, 1953 and he preceded her in death on May 5, 1996. She was homemaker and a member of First Baptist Church in Carmi and the Eastern Star.

Mabel is survived by a daughter, Deborah Lee Townsend of Crossville; three sons and daughters-in-law, Aaron and Demetra Townsend of Effingham, Mark and Debra Duckworth Townsend of San Antonio, TX and Richard and Gailya Townsend of Carmi; a sister and brother-in-law, Elizabeth Roetta and Ed Erwin of Carmi; a brother, Bobby Churchwell of McLeansboro; six grandchildren, Jason Townsend, Jason Gunnels, Roxanna Gunnels Ricketts, Michelle Gunnels, Lyndsey Townsend and Kelsey Townsend; and eight great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband; two sisters, Wilda Stokes and Dorothy Buckner; and a brother, James Churchwell.

Graveside funeral and burial services for Mabel L. (Churchwell) Townsend, 77, of Carmi, will be held Sunday, September 22, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. at North Maple Ridge Cemetery in Carmi. There will be no visitation and friends are asked to meet at the cemetery.
