Lula May Vinson, 78, of Carmi, passed away Sunday, December 21, 2014 at 4:26 p.m. at Saline Care Center in Harrisburg. She was born on August 26, 1936 in Carmi, the daughter of Willard Frederick and Lula (Ridenour) Ackerman. Lula married John V. Vinson on February 28, 1975 and he preceded her in death on November 22, 2009. She was a homemaker and a loving mother and grandmother.
She is survived by a daughter, Debra (Fred) Woodard of Carmi; a step-daughter, Teena (Richard) Williams of Montgomery, TX; two sons, Carl (Debbie) Gentry of O'Fallon, MO and James (Laura) Gentry of Chandler, AZ; a step-son, Jon Troy Vinson of Carmi; a sister, Lola Smith of Albion; three brothers, Wayne (Frances) Ackerman, William (Patsy) Ackerman and Kenneth (Pat) Ackerman all of Carmi; eleven grandchildren, Adam, Natalie, Kayla, Jennifer, Matthew, Katherine, Andrew, Johnathan, Nicholas, Rebecca and Thomas; and four great-grandchildren, Keira, Cooper, Primrose and Leah. Lula Mae was preceded in death by her husband; five brothers, James, Fred, Herbert, Joseph and Howard Ackerman; and the father of her children, James L. Gentry.
Funeral services for Lula May Vinson, 78, of Carmi, will be held Monday, December 29, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. at Campbell Funeral Home in Carmi with Rev. Lowes Browning officiating. Burial will be in White County Memorial Garden near Carmi. Friends may call on Sunday from 5:00 until 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
Memorial gifts may be given in Lula's name to the Alzheimer's Association and will be accepted at Campbell Funeral Home in Carmi.
