Lois Thompson

Lois (Malzac) Thompson, 71, of Carmi passed away at 3:52 p.m., on Sunday, September 24, 2017 at Carmi Manor Rehabilitation and Nursing Center in Carmi. She was born in Superior, WI, on August 11, 1946 the daughter of Peter and Aino (Koivisto) Malzac. Lois married Mark Thompson on February 14, 1988. She retired from the City of Carmi after 28 years of service working as a meter reader, street sweeper and at the waste water plant.  Lois was a life member of the VFW Auxiliary and a member of the American Legion Auxiliary. She served as VFW Auxiliary President for many years and was a past District 13 Auxiliary President. She loved spending time with family, loud music, and making people laugh and feel at home. She will be sadly missed.

Lois is survived by her husband of 29 years, Mark Thompson of Carmi; four daughters, Donna (Hugh) Unfried, Cheryl (Alan) Burnett, Becky (Terry) McCormick and Melissa (George) Churchwell all of Carmi; sister, Rosemary (Scott) Riley of Watertown, WI; two brothers, Robert (Bonnie) Malzac, of Bee, NE and Joseph Malzac, of Duluth, MN; 11 grandchildren, Courtney (Brandon Desper) Newberry, John (Laura) Goemaat, Levi Williams, Hunter Williams, Chad Burnett, Elizabeth (Tyler) Bleeks, Amanda (Kevin) Farrar, Alexa Churchwell, Justin (Stephanie) Burnett, Kyle Burnett and Derek Burnett; 9 great-grandchildren, Emeree Desper, Aiden Desper, Tyler Goemaat, Natalie Goemaat, Ian Goemaat, Parker Burnett, Zoe Hall, Hallie Burnett and Mollie Burnett.  She was preceded in death by her parents, her sister, Sandra Maker and an unborn son.

Funeral services for Lois (Malzac) Thompson, 71, of Carmi, will be held on Wednesday, September 27, 2017 at 12:00 p.m. at Campbell Funeral Home in Carmi. Visitation will be held on Wednesday from 10:00 a.m. until service time at Campbell Funeral Home.  Burial will be in North Maple Ridge Cemetery in Carmi. Memorial contributions may be made in Lois' memory to Cops and Kids Christmas in Carmi and will be accepted at Campbell Funeral Home in Carmi who is in charge of arrangements.
