Lewis Barbre

Lewis E. Barbre, 93, of West Paducah, KY passed away at 5:25 a.m., Sunday, March 1, 2015 at his daughter's residence in Paducah. He was born November 22, 1921 in Burnt Prairie, IL the son of Elias Edmond and Ada (Stanley) Barbre. Lewis married Betty Jo Gaines on May 3, 1947 and she preceded him in death on July 13, 2007. He was a graduate of Carmi Township High School and received his Bachelors of Science and Master's degrees from Murray St. University. Lewis served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and earned the rank of Ensign 1st Class. He worked as a chemist and in quality control at the Paducah Gaseous Diffusion Plant as well as teaching Chemistry at Paducah Community College. Lewis was a member of the Kentucky Retired Teachers Society, American Legion, Burnt Prairie Cumberland Presbyterian Church and Christ Community Church. Some of Lewis' favorite past times were Ford Thunderbirds, Oliver Tractors, farming and his family.

Lewis is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Janis and Michael Earle of Peoria, IL and Jo Ann and Tony Cooksey of Paducah, KY; five grandchildren, Joseph and Stacy Cooksey of St. Louis, MO, Jennifer and Merritt Bagwell of Berea, KY, Julie Wigginton of Paducah, KY and Michele Earle and Kevin and Kim Earle all of Washington, IL; eight great grandchildren, Rachel and Alex Look, Abigail Sample, Dalton and Josie Cooksey, Evelyn and Austin Bagwell and Lilian Wigginton; a brother-in-law, Elza Winter of Carmi and two nephews, Jerry and Mary Winter of Carmi and Jamie Winter of Princeton, IN. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Betty Jo, a sister, Dorris Winter and a brother, William Arthur Barbre.
Funeral services for Lewis E. Barbre, 93, of West Paducah, KY will be at 1:00 p.m., Friday, March 6, 2015 at Campbell Funeral Home in Carmi. Burial will be in Centerville Cemetery near Carmi. Friends may call at Campbell Funeral Home in Carmi on Friday from 11:00 a.m. until service time at 1:00 p.m.
