Laymond Sanders, 88, of Norris City passed away Friday, October 4, 2013 at 8:45 p.m. at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Marion, IL. He was born August 3, 1925 in Heralds Prairie Township, IL the son of Eben Carl and Ida Mary (Bryant) Sanders. Laymond was a World War II U.S. Navy veteran serving from 1943 to 1946. He had worked as a Railroad Postal Clerk for the U.S. Postal Service. Laymond attended Powell General Baptist Church in Norris City, was a member of the Equality American Legion and the Carmi VFW.
He is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Euna and Ronald Stokes of Norris City; a step-son, Eddie Clark of Richmond, IN; a grandson, Warren Willie Glad and his wife Bonnie; three great-grandchildren, Jacob, Zackariah and Nathaniel Glad; one great-great-grandson, Clay Patrick Glad; two sisters-in-law, Flora Sanders and Phyllis Sanders both of Norris City; and numerous nieces and nephews. Laymond was preceded in death by three sisters, Lucille Harris, Gladys Griffith and Bernice Baker; and two brothers, Carl and Bob Sanders.
Funeral Services for Laymond Sanders, 88, of Norris City will be at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, October 8, 2013 at Campbell Funeral Home in Norris City with Rick Absher officiating. Burial will be in Powell Cemetery in Norris City with Military Rites by the Carmi American Legion and VFW. Friends may call at Campbell Funeral Home in Norris City on Monday from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Memorial Contributions can be made help with the purchase of a monument for Laymond's great-grandfather. This was a project that Laymond had started and had hope to see completed. Donations will be accepted at Campbell Funeral Home.
