LaVerne D. Goossens, 83 of Evansville, passed away Tuesday June 21, 2016 at the Terrace at Solarbron. She was born September 10, 1932 in Harvey, IL the daughter of Marvin and Balbina (Klaczynski) Charleston. She married John C. "Jack" Goossens on November 10, 1956 in Harvey, IL.
LaVerne had worked at the parish secretary and had taught Kindergarten at Assension Church in Harvey, she was the secretary at St. Matthews from 1978-83. She had been the recipient of the Simon Brute' Award. She had served as president of the Columbiettes in Scotia, NY; president of Church Women United in Mt. Vernon; and secretary treasurer of the St. Vincent DePaul Society. She was a member of St. Matthew Catholic Church.,
She is survived by her son, Paul (Deanna) Goossens of Evansville; daughters, Theresa (Steven) Ubelhor of Evansville and Joan (Robert) Everhart of Pittsfield, MA; 6 grandchildren, David (Nicole) Ubelhor, Anna, Mark and Mary Ubelhor, Andrea (Kevin) Zawistowski and Patrick Everhart; and 4 great-grandchildren; brothers, Irvin (Roselyn Charleston, Robert (Margaret) Charleston, David (Arlene) Charleston, Kenneth (Alice) Charleston and Marvin (Helene) Charleston; sisters, Theresa Connelly and Dorothy Lassa. She was preceded in death by her brothers, James, Jerald and Donald and sister, Katherine Charleston.
Funeral Mass will be 10 a.m. Thursday June 30, 2016 at St. Matthew Catholic Church in Mt. Vernon. Burial will be in St. Matthew Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5-7 on Wednesday at the Stendeback Family Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon, concluded by the recital of the Rosary at 7 p.m. The family would like to thank everyone at the Point and Terrace of Solarbron for the care.
