Larry Edward Baumgart, 47, of rural Carmi passed away at his home on Saturday, January 24, 2015. He was born December 6, 1967 in Evansville, IN the son of Robert and Janet (Hillenbrand) Baumgart. A life-long resident of White County, IL, he graduated from Carmi Community High School in 1987. Larry owned Baumgart Trucking and was a partner in Baumgart Farms. His passion was driving his Peterbilt, which he shared with his son Terry. He was an avid outdoorsman, enjoying 4-wheeler and ranger rides and jet skiing in the summer. Larry always wore a smile and was a stranger to none. His kind, gentle heart, wit and jolly spirit will be missed by all that had the privilege of encountering him.
Larry is survived by his parents, Bob and Janet Baumgart of New Haven; the love of his life, Viola Peterson of Carmi; his pride and joy, son, Terry Edward Baumgart of Carmi; three sisters, Jane Moon and husband, Perry, Kathy Moon and husband, Chet all of Tuscumbia, AL and Cindy Baumgart and boyfriend, Mike Hite of Norris City; two brothers, Jeff Baumgart and wife, Debbie of Cape Girardeau, MO and Bob Baumgart and wife, Kristy of Acworth, GA; and 15 nieces and nephews.
Funeral Mass will be held for Larry E. Baumgart at 10:00 a.m., Friday, January 30, 2015 at St. Polycarp Catholic Church in Carmi with Father Jack Durchholz and Father Vincent Obi officiating. Burial will be in Big Prairie Cemetery near Carmi. Friends may call at Campbell Funeral Home in Carmi from 4:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m., Thursday where a prayer service will be held at 7:30 p.m. and from 9:00 a.m. until service time on Friday at St. Polycarp. Memorial contributions may be made to an education fund for Terry Baumgart and will be accepted at Banterra Bank or Campbell Funeral Home.
