Kermit R. Bates, 89, of Lawrenceville and formerly of Carmi passed away at 11:05 a.m., Friday, January 22, 2016 at United Methodist Village- South Campus in Lawrenceville. He was born on February 14, 1926 in White County, IL the son of Charles H. and Clora (Newcomb) Bates. Kermit married Shirley L. Browning on March 23, 1957 and she survives. He was a farmer and worked as Nuclear Diagnostic Testing Inspector for Babcock and Wilcox in Mt. Vernon, IN.. Kermit was a member of New Haven Green Tabernacle Church and had attended First Christian Church in Carmi.
Kermit is survived by his wife of 59 years, Shirley of Lawrenceville; two sons and daughters-in-law, Fred and Rose Kendall of Lawrenceville and Denny and Jan Bates of Alton; two sisters, Jane Absher and Sue Endicott both of Carmi; four grandchildren, Jennifer Bates, Josh Bates, Heather Moye and husband Jeff and Lindsey Warren and husband Kyle; and two great-grandchildren, Jude and Daphne Moye.
Funeral Services for Kermit R. Bates, 89, of Lawrenceville and formerly of Carmi will be at 1:00 p.m., Tuesday, January 26, 2016 at Campbell Funeral Home in Carmi. Burial will be in Union Ridge Cemetery near Norris City. Friends may call at Campbell Funeral Home in Carmi on Tuesday from 10:30 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to United Methodist Village- South Campus Activities Fund or Good Samaritan Hospice and will be accepted at Campbell Funeral Home in Carmi.
