Kathryn Cowling

Kathryn L. (Meritt) Cowling, 90, of Carmi, passed away on Friday, February 18, 2022, at Deaconess Gateway Hospital, in Newburgh, Indiana.  She was born on January 18, 1932, the daughter of Carson and Dorthy (Dallas) Meritt.  Kathryn married Jack Cowling Jr. on May 30, 1954, and he preceded her in death in March, 1984.  She enjoyed playing piano, doing puzzles, and attending gospel concerts.  Kathryn was an avid Carmi Bulldog fan and loved listening to games and supporting and attending her family's activities.

Kathryn is survived by her son Bryan (Jayme) Cowling of Carmi, IL; grandchildren, Chayce Cowling and Ashtyn Cowling; siblings, Mary Lou Jeffers of Mt. Carmel, IL, Patsy Hocking of Mt. Carmel, IL. and Eva Smith of Albion, IL.  In addition to her husband, Jack Cowling Jr, Kathryn is preceded in death by her parents; a daughter Kristen Kay Cowling; and two brothers, Leland Meritt and Harold Meritt.

Funeral services for Kathryn Cowling will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, February 22, 2022,  at Ditney Ridge Church in Norris City, with burial at Oak Grove cemetery in Grayville, Illinois. Family and friends may visit from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Monday, February 21, 2022, at Campbell Funeral Home in Carmi.  In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made in Kathryn's memory to Ditney Ridge Baptist Church and will be accepted at Campbell Funeral Home in Carmi, who is in charge of arrangements.
