J.W. Lewis

J.W. Lewis, age 90 of Mount Vernon, died Monday afternoon May 20, 2013 at Deaconess Hospice. He was born February 16, 1923 at Braggs, OK the son of John William and Myrtle (Ellis) Lewis. He married Ruby Nell Sweger on May 12, 1946.

J.W. was a Rancher Supervisor for 39 years in California retiring in 1985. He was a veteran of the United States Army having served during WWII. He was a long time member of New Horizon Fellowship Church of God in Evansville.

J.W. is survived by his wife Ruby of 67 years, daughters, Phyllis Dixon (John) of Mt. Vernon, Brenda Everett (Patrick) of Madera, CA, Linda Anderson (Jon) of Jacksonville, FL, and Patsy Everett (James) of Fresno, CA, and his son Glen Lewis (Debbie) of Chowchilla, CA. J.W. also is survived by 18 Grandchildren, 63 Great Grandchildren and 16 Great Great Grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Shirley Lewis in 2001 and a grandson, Sgt. Justin Everett, United States Marine Corp in 2012.

Funeral services will be at 1:00PM Friday, May 24, 2013 at Stendeback Family Funeral Home, Mt. Vernon, IN, Reverend Carl Mann officiating. Burial to follow in Black Cemetery in Mt. Vernon where the Owen Dunn American Legion #5 will conduct full military rites. Friends may call Thursday May 23, 2013 from 4:00PM to 7:00PM at the funeral home.
