Joseph L.Upton, 87 of Enfield, died Monday morning, March 10, 2014 at his home. He was born on October 26, 1926 in Hamilton County, the son of Ed and Stella (Powell) Upton. He married Mary Rankin on December 10, 1948 in Fairfield and she survives.
Mr. Upton farmed and worked at B&W in Mt. Vernon, IN before his retirement. He was a WWII U.S. Army Veteran. He belonged to the Springerton American Legion for 68 years, the Carmi VFW and the McLeansboro Elks. He was a member of the Missionary Baptist Church in Enfield.
He is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Rick & Debbie Upton of Cambria; one grandson and his wife, Joseph L. & Alicia Upton of Carterville; one granddaughter and her husband, Melissa & Ben Henson of Midland,TX; two great-grandchildren, Maddy and Alex Henson, and baby girl Upton on the way. He was preceded in death by one daughter, Deborah Jean, his parents and 12 brothers and sisters.
Funeral services will be held at 10 am on Friday, March 14, 2014 at the Stendeback Family Funeral Home in Enfield. Visitation will be from 5-7 pm on Thursday, March 13, 2014 at the funeral home. Burial will be in Enfield Cemetery with Military Rites conducted by the combined units of the Springerton American Legion and Carmi VFW.
