Joseph "Papa Mack" McCabe, III, 71, of Mt. Carmel passed away at 6:48 a.m., Saturday, April 6, 2019 at his home. He was born in Honolulu, Oahu, Hawaii on October 8, 1947 the son of Joseph McCabe, II and Llala Katie (Liftee) McCabe. Papa Mack worked as a Paver at McCabe Paving Co. in Hawaii for over 20 years. He was married to Laurinda M. Makahanaloa for over 40 years. Papa Mack loved spending time with his family, scraping metal, cooking, music and playing the ukulele.
Surviving are his wife, Linda; three daughters, Janelle Tina (Mike Quillman) Jennings of Mt. Carmel, Lurline Mahealani (Jolene Jarra) Makahanloa of Maui, HI and Lynnette (Mark Lake) Makahanaloa of Indiana; four grandchildren, Michael Ridings, Branden Westfall, Travis Gill and Jasmine (Chris Talley) Gill; six great-grandchildren, Malachi, Mackee, Oceania, Blayde, Shayne and Abigayle; a sister, Leeann (George) Hikita of Anchorage, AK; and two brothers, George (Patsy) McCabe of California and Zackary Grace of Las Vegas, NV. He was preceded in death by his parents, his grandmother who helped raise him, Katie Hanawahine Liftee; a sister, Thelma Lani McCabe; and a brother, Robert McCabe.
A visitation to celebrate the life of Joseph "Papa Mack" McCabe, III will be held from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, April 9, 2019 at Campbell Funeral Home in Carmi. Burial will be held at a later date in his native Hawaii. Memorial Contributions may be made to the family to assist with returning his ashes to Hawaii.
