Johnnie “Susie” Mason, age 67 of Mt. Vernon, IN, died Sunday evening March 16, 2008 at her home. She was born August 8, 1940 at Posey County, the daughter of John and Maggie (McFarron) Phillips. She married Alfred “Al” Mason on June 26, 1959.

Susie was a longtime employee of Jim & Waynes Pharmacy in Mt. Vernon. She served many capacities at the Mt. Vernon Thrift Shop, was a member of the Friends of the Library and spent countless hours as a volunteer for many organizations. She was a certified master gardener. A devoted Mother, grandmother, sister and friend. Susie had a very active association with Harvestime Temple in Mt. Vernon.

Susie is survived by her husband Al; three sons and daughter-in law, Martin P and Connie Mason of Mt.Vernon, Bradley “Jay” Mason of Denver, CO, and David R. Mason of Evansville; four grandchildren, Anthony Deig, Mersadys Mason, Miranda Fisher and Hallie Fisher; one sister and brother-in-law and family, Bonnie R. and Gary Suits of New Harmony, IN. and their son and daughter-in-law, Sean and Sarah Suits of St. Petersburg, FL. She is also survived by many special brother and sisters-in-law and many special nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Wilbern J. Phillips.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Thursday March 20, 2008 at Harvestime Temple in Mt. Vernon with Rev. Mark Tabor officiating. Burial will be in Welborn Cemetery at Mt. Vernon. Visitation will be from 3-8 p.m. on Wednesday March 19, 2008 at the Austin Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon. Memorials are suggested to Harvestime Temple and the Mt .Vernon Homeless Shelter.
