John Schneider

John Schneider, 86, of Carmi passed away at 4:00 p.m., Wednesday, December 17, 2014 at Wabash Christian Retirement Center in Carmi. He was born on November 7, 1928 in Big Prairie, IL the son of Anton and Sophia (Rebstock) Schneider. John married Christine Walker on June 3, 1948. He was a farmer, truck driver for Mapco, and a school bus driver. John was a member of St. Polycarp Catholic Church and St. Polycarp Knights of Columbus.

He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Christine; three daughters and sons-in-law, Liz and Bill Jones of Mill Shoals, Carolyn and Phil Hoskins of Norris City and Terri and Rick Absher of Carmi; a son and daughter-in-law, Keith and Charla Schneider of Norris City; five grandchildren, Cully Jones, Sarah and Timmy Hunsinger, Jeremy and Marcie Hoskins, Amy and J.P. Wiggins and Jonathan and Beth Absher; ten great-grandchildren, Devin and Drew Phipps, Katie and Andrew Hunsinger, Tyler and Emma Hoskins, Kale and Kai Wiggins, and Corban and Micah Absher; a sister-in-law, Anita Schneider of Carmi; numerous nieces and nephews and a special caregiver, Pat Stewart.

John was preceded in death by a sister, Eloise Zimmerman and four brothers, James, Tony, Charles and Ralph Schneider.

Funeral Services for John Schneider, 86, of Carmi will be at 11:00 a.m., Friday, December 19, 2014 at St. Polycarp Catholic Church with Rev. Father Vincent Obi officiating. Burial will be in St. Polycarp Catholic Cemetery in Carmi. Friends may call at Campbell Funeral Home in Carmi on Thursday, December 18, 2014 from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. where a prayer service will be held at 5:00 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to Wabash Christian Retirement Center Memory Care Unit and will be accepted at Campbell Funeral Home in Carmi.
