John Rye

John "Don" Rye 71, of Mt. Vernon, IN passed away Friday morning February 23, 2018 at Deaconess Heart Hospital in Newburgh. He was born November 30, 1946 in Clarksville, TN the son of John H. and Esther Lee (Black) Rye. He married Linda Russell on August 21, 1968 in Benton, IL.

Don did auto body work at Frank Moll Motors until retirement. He then worked for Performance Refinishing Supply. Don's passion was racing dirt bikes. He was a member of the Red Fox Motorcycle Club and the AMA District 15 Association.

He is survived by his wife, Linda; son, Donnie (Joi) Rye of Mt. Vernon, daughters, Shanda (Adam) Keller of Cayuga, IN, Patty (Billy) Eaton of Lake Park, GA, Tonya (Ron) McKinney  and Heather (Mike) Nobles all of Mt. Vernon; sister, Linda Shaffer of Mt. Vernon, IL and brother, Kenny (Barbara) Rye of Kankakee, IL; 13 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. Many special friends including, John Wilson and Keith Robinson. He was preceded in death by his parents, son James; grandchildren, Katy and Karissa McKinney and his brother, Clifton.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday February 27, 2018 at the Stendeback Family Funeral Home at 1330 E. 4th St., Mt. Vernon with burial in Bellefontaine Cemetery. Visitation will be from Noon until time of services. Online condolences may be left at stendebackfamilyfuneralhome.com
