John H. Price, 65 of Evansville, IN died on Sunday afternoon August 9, 2009 at Deaconess Gateway Hospital in Newburgh, IN. He was born on February 19, 1944 in Mt. Vernon, the son of Manford and Etoy (McCray) Price.


After 30 years of employment, Mr. Price retired from Alcoa in Newburgh. He was a 1962 graduate of Mt. Vernon High School, where he received the Kiwanis Athletic Award and was also inducted into the Sports Hall of Fame. John also graduated from Indiana State University with a BS Degree. He was a member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. One of his passions was betting on horseracing all over the country. He was a big fan of the Kentucky Derby. John loved Jazz and Blues music. He helped to organize the first Special Olympics Organization in Evansville and was employed with the Evansville Association for Retarded Citizens.


He is survived by his wife of 25 years, Mary; one son and daughter-in-law, James Anthony & Nichole Price of Detroit, MI; one daughter and son-in-law, LeShauna & Marvin Brown of Anderson, IN; three grandchildren, Jalen Price, Jada Price and Kailynn Brown; one brother, Kimmie Eugene Price of Nashville, TN and three sisters, Viva Jean Price and Vickie Turner, both of Mt. Vernon and Carrie Washington of Los Angeles, CA. He was preceded in death by his father and mother.


Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, August 14, 2009 at the New Hope Baptist Church in Evansville with burial in Oak Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. on Thursday, August 13, 2009 at the Austin-Stendeback Family Funeral Home at 1330 E. 4th St., Mt. Vernon, IN and one hour before the service at the church on Friday.
