John Fred Obermeier, 89, of Norris City, passed away on Sunday, January 15, 2023, at Enfield Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center. He was born on July 9, 1933, in Okawville, Illinois, the son of John H. and Ella M. (Bordewisch) Obermeier. John proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War. He married Kathryn Marie Shubert on September 10, 1955, and she preceded him in death on November 18, 2021. He was a member of the Norris City American Legion Post 109, and the Farm Bureau. John was a transport truck driver for over 30 years, with Farm Services in Norris City.
John is survived by his three daughters, Jan (David) Carroll of Norris City, IL, Kathi (Jon) Graf of Pinetop, AZ, and Martha (Ken) Bohnenkamp of Oregon, OH; grandchildren, Chad Carroll, Kasi Carroll, Keri Carroll, Jerod (Ali) Bohnenkamp, Joshua Bohnenkamp, and Jessica (Sam) Johnson; two great-grandchildren, Lucy and Graham Bohnenkamp; and three brothers Raymond, Roland, and Leonard Obermeier. In addition to his wife, Kathryn Obermeier, John is preceded in death by his parents; three sisters; Bertha Randoll, Lou Randoll and Hulda Jacobs and a brother, Edward Obermeier.
Funeral services for John Fred Obermeier will be held at 12:00 p.m., Thursday, January 19, 2023 at Campbell Funeral Home in Norris City. Burial will follow in IOOF Cemetery in Norris City with full military honors by the Carmi American Legion and VFW. Friends may visit on Thursday, January 19, 2023 from 10:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. at Campbell Funeral Home in Norris City. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in John's memory to the NCOE Athletic Department and will be accepted at Campbell Funeral Home.
