John Mosby, Sr

John A. Mosby, Sr., 78 of Mt. Vernon, passed away at his home on Saturday morning, April 16, 2016.  He was born on September 15, 1937 in Mt. Vernon, the son of David Young and Aretha Grace (Draper) Mosby.  He married Floie M.  Hill on December 24, 1958 in Ledford, IL and she survives.

Mr. Mosby worked for 44 years at Whirlpool before his retirement.  An Entrepreneur, he owned  several business, including a tax business, mowing and trucking.  He was a member of the Destiny of Faith Church in Evansville.  He also served 1 year with U.S. Army Reserve.  He was very proud of his heritage.  The Mosby family came to America from England in the late 1700's to Kentucky, then Indiana.  He was a relative of Col. John Singleton Mosby, the "Gray Ghost of the Confederacy" .  As a 5th generation American, he recently joined the Pioneers of Indiana.

He is survived by sons, John (Annette) Mosby, Jr. of Santa Fe, TX, David Curtis (Mary C. ) Mosby of Mt. Vernon, Richard Harold (Melissa) Mosby of Victoria, TX, Matthew Steven (Twila) Mosby of Mt. Vernon, and Samuel C. (fiance' , Valerie See) Mosby, daughter, Diana Lynn Mosby (Gerald W.) Muller of Wadesville; 17 grandchildren plus 1 "on the way"; 10 great-grandchildren; brother, Robert Eugene (Juanita) Mosby of Wilcott, IN and sister, Davida Segal of Frankfort, IN.  He was preceded in death by his parents and several brothers and sisters.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, April 20, 2016 at Stendeback Family Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon.  Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. on Tuesday, April 19, 2016 at the funeral home.  Burial will be in Calvin Cemetery.  Military rites will be conducted by Owen Dunn Post #5.  On-line condolences may be left at stendebackfamilyfuneralhome.com
