John E. Meador 85, of Mt. Vernon passed away Saturday, May 25, 2019 at Deaconess Hospital in Evansville. John was born on September 8, 1933 in Morganfield, Kentucky to Paul Meadors and Viola (Blackburn) Ridens. John married Della (Gregory) Meador and were married on September 16, 1956 in Fairfield Illinois.
John was a veteran of the United States Marines and served in the Korean Conflict. He was a member of the Owen Dunn Post #5 American Legion and enjoyed woodworking and upholstery. John worked at the Wabash Memorial bridge Toll booth for many years and was recognizable from his green Marine Hat. He was a member of the Mt. Vernon Baptist Church.
John is survived by his wife, Della; sons, John (Diana) Meador, Mark (Janet) Meador, Robert, and Owen (Judy) Meador; daughter, Regina Brown; brother, Paul Meadors, 10 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his parents, daughters; Juanita and Tina Marie, grandchild, Tim Brown Jr.
Funeral Services will be held on 10 am Wednesday May 29, 2019 at the Stendeback Family Funeral Home at 1330 East 4th St, Mt. Vernon with burial in Blacks’ Cemetery with military rites by the Owen Dunn American Legion Post #5. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, May 28, 2019 from 4 pm to 8 pm. Online Condolence may be left at stendebackfamilyfuneralhome.com. In Lieu of flowers memorials can be may to Linda White Hospice.
