John Hyatt, 98, of Springerton, Illinois, passed away on Sunday February 21, 2021. He was born in New Harmony, Indiana on August 10, 1922, the son of John and Frances (Shepard) Hyatt. He was married to Edna Straker and she preceded him in death. John proudly served in the United States Marines during World War II. He worked as a driller and tool pusher in the oil fields for many years.
John is survived by two sons, John F. Hyatt Jr. of Springerton, IL and Steven Hyatt of St. Charles, MO; two daughters, Shannon Gollner of Newburgh, IN. and Rebecca Croft of Owensboro, KY.; ten grandchildren; 17 great- grandchildren; eight great-great grandchildren and a close friend who was like a son, "Doc" Byron Musselman of Hopewell, PA. He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife Edna (Straker) Hyatt.
A celebration of life for John Hyatt will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made in John's memory to the Carmi American Legion or VFW to be used military funeral details and will be accepted at Campbell Funeral Home in Norris City who is in charge of arrangements.
