John I. Dozier, 90 of Mill Shoals, died Wednesday afternoon February 26, 2014 at St. Marys Hospital in Evansville. He was born July 16, 1923 in Springerton, the son of Everett and Emma Avaline (Reever) Dozier. He married Wave Garrett on January 6, 1946 at the Mill Shoals Methodist Church.
John had done some farming, blacksmithing and run an implement dealership, before working and retiring from the State of Illinois. John served during WWII with the United States Army at Normandy, Northern France, Rhineland and Central Europe. He received numerous medals for his service to our country. He had been a school board member in Mill Shoals; was a member of the Mill Shoals Ruritan Club, the Springerton American Legion and the Mill Shoals Christian Church.
He is survived by his wife, Wave; 4 sons, Ron and Jackie of Bloomington, IL, Larry and Marti of Phoenix, AZ, John Harlan of Mill Shoals and Ivan and Michele of Ivesdale; 3 daughters, Audrey and Dan Lemke of Bluford, Anita and Lindy Caldwell of Sims and Mary and Mark Short of Burnt Prairie; 16 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren also survive; 4 brothers, Ralph and Betty of Fairfield, Lloyd and Elli of Walawala, WA, Kenneth and Barbara of Bonney Lake, WA and Carroll and Reva of Burnt Prairie. Also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by 1 sister, Beulah Dozier and 3 brothers, Lester, Marvin and Lawrence “Shorty” Dozier.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. On Monday March 3, 2014 at the Mill Shoals Christian Church with burial in Little Zion Cemetery with military rites by the Springerton Amrerican Legion and the Carmi American Legion and V.F.W. Visitation will be from 2-5 p.m. On Sunday at the Stendeback Family Funeral Home in Enfield and 1 hour prior to services at the church.
