John Cozart

October 3, 1929 — December 4, 2017

John T. "Tommy" Cozart, 88, of Carmi passed away at 2:14 p.m., Monday, December 4, 2017 at St. Vincent Hospital in Evansville, IN.  He was born October 3, 1929 in Harrisburg, IL the son of John C. and Lena Mae (Turner) Cozart.  Tommy married Nina M. Anderson on February 25, 1955 in McLeansboro, IL.  He attended school in Mounds, IL and after graduation he faithfully served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.  Tommy worked as a railroad engineer on the New York Central and Conrail.  He also farmed and raised cattle.  Tommy was a member of the Walnut Grove Baptist Church where he served as superintendent.  He was a member of the Carmi American Legion and VFW and White County Farm Bureau.

Tommy is survived by his wife of 62 years, Nina of Carmi; a daughter, Tamara (Dan) Konsler of Henderson, KY; a son, Dennis (Caren) Cozart of Evansville, IN;  brother, Ivan (Mary Lou) Cozart of Norris City; three grandchildren, Jordan Cozart, Daniel (Katelyn) Flick, Carrie (Brian) Wagner; and two great-grandchildren, Elli and Easton Wagner.  He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, Georgia Pauline Gowdy and Mary Imogene Smith; and three brothers, Dick, Jim and Bob Cozart.

Funeral services for John T. "Tommy" Cozart, 88, of Carmi will be at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, December 9, 2017 at Campbell Funeral Home in Carmi.  Burial will be in White County Memorial Garden in Carmi with full military rites by the Carmi VFW and American Legion.  Visitation will be on Saturday from 9:00 a.m. until service time at 11:00 a.m. at Campbell Funeral Home.  Memorial contributions may be made in Tommy's memory to Walnut Grove Baptist Church and will be accepted at Campbell Funeral Home.
