Joel Healy Jr., 97 of Norris City, IL, passed away on Tuesday, June 1, 2021 at Wabash Christian Village in Carmi, IL. He was born on July 19, 1923 in Indian Creek Township, the son of Joel and Mattie (Snyder) Healy Sr. On January 17, 1948, he married Jo Ann Weldin in Morganfield, KY and together they shared over seventy-three years of marriage.
Joel served his country honorably in the United States Army during World War Two as a Staff Sergeant. One of his accomplishments was to be part of the second wave to land at Utah Beach on D-Day. After returning home he worked as a shipyard welder and mail carrier before beginning his over thirty-year career in dairy sales with Ideal. Joel had been a member of Norris City Post # 109 American Legion for over seventy years. Joel had a deep faith in God which carried him throughout his life.
In addition to his wife Jo Ann Healy, he is survived by his children, Mitchell (Cindy) Healy of Wylie, TX, Martha Jo (James) Bruce of Bone Gap, IL and Anita Gayle (Mark) Scott of McLeansboro, IL; six grandchildren, Amanda Healy Slavish, Joel Healy, Briana Healy, Bob Bruce, Sarah Scott and Matthew Scott; three great-grandchildren, Madison Kirchman, Tori Bruce and Chloe Bruce.
Joel was preceded in death by his parents; eight siblings, James William Healy, Sammy Healy, George Healy, Mason Healy, Ida Mae Southard, Ruth Ann Thornton, Emily Healy, Stella Cable; two sons Lloyd and Tommy Healy and a grandson Christopher Bruce.
Funeral Services for Joel Healy Jr. will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 5, 2021 at Stendeback Funeral Home in Enfield, IL. Friends and family may visit from 1:00 p.m. until the time of service. Burial will follow at Enfield Cemetery with full military honors.
