Jimmy Murphy

Jimmie J. Murphy, 79 of Carmi passed away April 28, 2015 at his home with family around his bedside. He was born in New York City, NY, on March 14, 1936 the son of John & Bridie (Clifford) Murphy. He married Mary Dow on May 5, 1956 and she survives.

Mr. Murphy served on the Carmi City Police Dept. for 32 years and retired as a Police Sgt. He was a member of the U.S. Air Force for 6 years and was in Germany. He belonged to St. Polycarp Catholic Church. He was an avid reader and enjoyed working in the yard.

He is survived by his wife, Mary; three sons, Jimmie Murphy of Alexandria, VA, John (Cathy) Murphy of Vernon, AL, Mike (Kelly) Murphy of Grayville; three daughters, Kathy (Tom) Crego of Rogers, AR, Patricia (Billy) Earl and Eileen Pollard, both of Carmi; 11 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great-grandson. He was preceded in death by his parents, 3 brothers, a half- brother and half -sister.
