Jewell Behler, 80, of Carmi passed away at 9:25 a.m., Sunday, May 25, 2014 at Deaconess Hospital in Evansville, IN. She was born August 30, 1933 in Monroe, TN the daughter of Robert Ernest and Mattie (Wilburn) Harvey. Jewell married Richard H. "Dike" Behler on September 14, 1949. She was a homemaker and had worked as a waitress at the Bowling Alley, Main Cafe and Gingham Kitchen. Jewell was active in the community and her church. She was a member and taught Vacation Bible School at Emmanuel United Methodist Church and helped with Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts, Brownies, Girl Scouts and Little League.
Jewell is survived by her husband of 64 years, Richard "Dike" Behler of Carmi; a daughter, Melissa Victoria Simpson of Alexandria, VA; a son, Richard Dyke Behler of Carmi; three grandchildren, Zayne Simpson and his wife Alyssa of Columbus, OH, Talon Simpson of Los Angeles, CA and Alexandria Jewell Pyform and her husband Dexter of Washington, D.C.; a great-granddaughter, Chloe Pyfrom; two sisters, Jenell Hayden of Gilmer, TX and Jerry Nelene Pollard of Norris City; a brother and sister-in-law, Larry and Reesie Harvey of Denver, NC; the father of her grandchildren, Reid Simpson of Columbus, OH; along with numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by a son, Stanley Dike Behler on July 8, 1950, a daughter, Linda Rose Behler on February 22, 1965 and a sister, Frances Hillyard.
Funeral Services for Jewell Behler, 80, of Carmi will be at 11:00 a.m., Friday, May 30, 2014 at Campbell Funeral Home in Carmi with Pastor Bob McKelvey and Mike Fields officiating. Burial will be in the North Maple Ridge Cemetery in Carmi. Friends may call on Thursday from 5:00 until 8:00 p.m. at the Campbell Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to the donor's favorite charity.
