Janet Sue Churchwell, 79, of Carmi, passed away on Wednesday, August 29, 2024, at Deaconess Midtown Hospital in Evansville, Indiana. She was born in East Carmi on June 3, 1945, the daughter of Dallas and Nellie (Farmer) Erwin. Janet married Howard W. Churchwell on June 2, 1961, at the East Side Baptist Mission in Carmi. Together, they shared over 51 years of marriage until Howard’s passing on October 27, 2012. During their time together they enjoyed traveling and going to flea markets. Janet loved her family very much and enjoyed spending time with them. She attended First Baptist and Stewart Street Baptist Churches in Carmi. Her favorite pastimes included baking, watching westerns and “I Love Lucy”, and collecting various antiques. 

Janet is survived by her two sons, Tim (Christy) Churchwell of Crossville and Tony (Stacy) Churchwell of Carmi; siblings, Vickie (Tom) Moore of Carmi and Eddie (Roetta) Erwin of Carmi, and several nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband and a brother Gary Erwin.

A visitation for Janet Sue Churchwell will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, September 3, 2024, at Campbell Funeral Home in Carmi. A private family inurnment, will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Janet’s memory may be made to Coins for Cancer or Pets at Risk and will be accepted at Campbell Funeral Home in Carmi, who are in charge of arrangements.
