James Payton Abbey

James Payton Abbey, age 74 of Gallatin, TN passed away April 22, 2021. He was born July 25, 1946 in Carmi, IL to Ruby Mae (Dunkin) and the late James Martin Abbey.

Payton is survived by his daughter, Michelle (John) Prescott; grandchildren, Nathan (Stephanie), Nicholas (Stacey), Kassandra, Alexander and Cayden; 4 great-grandchildren; mother, Ruby (Dunkin) Abbey; brothers, David (Alice) Abbey and Mark (Ratsamee) Abbey and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.

Payton was a 1964 graduate of Carmi Township High School and went on to serve in the U.S. Air Force. He was an avid reader, he enjoyed fishing and loved playing poker with his grandchildren.

A visitation to celebrate the life of James Payton Abbey will be held on Saturday, June 12, 2021 from 10:00 a.m. until noon at Campbell Funeral Home in Carmi, with burial of his ashes following at 12:30 p.m. in White County Memorial Garden where the Carmi American Legion and VFW will perform full military honors.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contribution's may be made in Payton's memory to the Carmi VFW or American Legion and will be accepted at Campbell Funeral Home in Carmi.
