James "Jim" Nathan Taylor, 84, of Norris City, passed away on Tuesday, November 30, 2021, at the Linda E. White Hospice House, in Evansville, Indiana. He was born on December 17, 1936, the son of Marion and Elizabeth (Lott) Taylor. He proudly served his country in the United States Navy. Jim married Marla Gayle Tichenor on July 24, 1959, and she preceded him in death on September 16, 2019. In 1975, he began working at First National Bank as a loan officer. He later went on to work at Shelter Insurance and eventually sold insurance independently until retirement. Jim was a member of the Carmi American Legion as well as the Newburgh American Legion. He served as Carmi Post Commander as well as the Illinois State Commander of the American Legion. He enjoyed playing pool, watching UK and U of E College basketball. and most of all, spending time with his grandkids.
Jim is survived by his children, Nat Taylor of Carmi, IL, Scott Taylor of Carmi, IL, and Derek (Elisha) Taylor of Norris City, IL; grandchildren, Dakotah (Kayla) Anderson, McKenzie, Keagan, Kason, and Manessa Jo; great-grandkids, Oaklyn and Asher and a brother, Duane Taylor of Oregon. In addition to his wife, Jim was preceded in death by his parents.
Funeral services for James "Jim" Taylor, will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, December 11, 2021, at Campbell Funeral Home in Carmi. Burial will be held at 2:30 p.m., Saturday at Bates Hill Cemetery in Yankeetown, Indiana with full military honors. Family and friends may visit from 10:00 a.m. until time of service at Campbell Funeral Home in Carmi. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made in Jim's memory to the American Cancer Society and the Alzheimer's Association and will be accepted at Campbell Funeral Home in Carmi, who is in charge of arrangements.
