James Warren "Jim" Toombs, 76, of Broughton passed away on Monday, May 15, 2017 at Wabash Christian Retirement Center in Carmi. He was born in Fairfield, IL on October 25, 1940 the son of Earnest Darrel and Waneta Elizabeth (Locke) Toombs. He was a painter with the Painters District Council #30 in Aurora, IL. Jim enjoyed harness racing where he owned and trained horses.
Jim is survived by a daughter, Diana (Allen) Marsh, of Fairfield; three sons, Rick Toombs and James E. Toombs, of Fairfield and Burl Elvis Toombs, of Tennessee; brother, Darrell (Alice) Toombs, of Carmi; two sisters, JoAnn (Elmo) Kebodeaux and Joni (Glen) Henderson both of Flora; two brothers-in-law, Harold Thomason, Sr., of Wayne City and Earl Hutcheson, Sr., of Fairfield; a lifelong friend, Steve Steiner, of Kansas and eleven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Tommy Toombs, three sisters, Melba Thomason, Sharon Hutcheson and Ruth Toombs and a grandson, James E. Toombs, Jr.
There will be no services. Campbell Funeral Home in Norris City was in charge of arrangements. Memorial contributions may be made to Campbell Funeral Home to assist the family with funeral expenses.
