James Rockett

James M. Rockett, 92, of Enfield, passed away Tuesday, August 30, 2016, at his home.  He was born October 28, 1923 in Hamilton County, to Jesse C. and Anna (Martin) Rockett.  He married Frieda H. Leathers on March 17, 1943 and she preceded him in death in 2012.

He was a WWII Army veteran, a charter member of the Springerton American Legion Post 1126, a member of Enfield Lodge #677 AF&AM, an alumni of Springerton High School and was a member and guitarist for Springerton Community Church.

He was an avid musician and traveled the tri-state area with his beloved wife singing and playing Southern Gospel Music for over 50 years.  They played and sang with “The Missionettes”, who had a radio broadcast on WMCL radio; the “Dillman Gospel Singers” and their friends when they wintered in Arcadia, FL.  He was also a diehard, lifelong Cardinal fan.

He is survived by three sons, Dennis of Montgomery, TX, Kenny (Carmen) of Carmi, and David (Stephanie) of Elmhurst; two daughters, Susie (Braden) Willis and Linda (Randy) Duckworth of Enfield, nine grandchildren, twenty great-grandchildren, eleven great-great grandchildren, and one on the way; one sister, Imogene Scott of Elmhurst; a sister-in-law, Sharon Rockett of Newburgh, IN and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife of 69 years, siblings, Evelyn (Willard) Rose, Beulah (Lyman) Hendershott, Gladys (William) McKnight, Curtis W. (Ann) Rockett, Jesse C. Rockett, Jr., Charlene (Randall) Scott, Sarrah Maydell (Honore’) Barus and Verna (Hank) Woods.

Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. on Saturday, September 3, 2016 at Stendeback Family Funeral Home in Enfield.  Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Friday, September 2, 2016 at the funeral home.  Burial will be in Hammack Cemetery.  Military rites will be conducted by the combined units of the Carmi American Legion and VFW.
