James Hassell

James H. Hassell, age 77 of Mt. Vernon, died Monday morning December 24, 2012 at Mt. Vernon Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. He was born March 16, 1935 at Griffin, IN the son of James Herbert and Fern (Lewis) Hassell, Sr. He married Elizabeth Somers on September 5, 1953 at Stewartsville.

James worked for many years at Schroeder Marathon. Along with his wife he owned and operated Westside Laundry and Recycling.

He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth; one son and daughter-in-law, Richard and Jeanne Hassell of Mt. Vernon; one daughter and son-in-law, Deborah and Mike Smith of Ft. Mitchell, AL; seven grandchildren, Angel, Norris, Jonathan Lacer, Holly Newman, Eric Angermeier, Lauren Sprunk, Jennifer Hassell and Keith Hassell; eight great-grandchildren; six sisters, Betty Farrar, Doris Fetzer, Edith Farrar, Jeanette Conklin, Brenda Guinn and Carolyn Rice.

He is preceded in death by one son, Philip and one daughter, Terri Angermeier.

Funeral services will be held at noon on Friday December 28, 2012 at the Stendeback Family Funeral Home at 1330 E. 4th St., Mt. Vernon with burial in Bellefontaine Cemetery. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until time of services. Online condolences may be left at stendebackfamilyfuneralhome.com
