James W. Green, age 83, of Mt. Vernon, died on January 7, 2009 at his home. He was born on November 1, 1925 in Henderson, KY, the son of Abe and Minnie (Wilson) Green. He married Bonnie Cox on March 20, 1948 and she preceded him in death.
Mr. Green was a maintenance worker with the Mount Vernon School District until his retirement. He was a WWII Army Veteran. He belonged to the Mt. Vernon Eagles and Moose Lodges. He loved gardening.
He is survived by two sons and a daughter-in-law, Ronnie Green of Mt. Vernon and Richard Wayne and Karen Green of Chillicothe, OH; four daughters and three sons-in-law, Carolyn and Danny Kern, Charlotte and Malcolm Ricketts, Martha J. Nobles and Joyce Ann and Stanley Hack, all of Mt. Vernon; nineteen grandchildren; thirty-two great-grandchildren; six great-great grandchildren; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Louella and Richard Branson of Henderson, KY and Joan and Joe Ott of Mt. Vernon. He was preceded in death by one granddaughter; one brother, Vincent Green; and two sisters, Virginia Darnell and Dorothy Higgs.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, January 10, 2009 at the Austin Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon, with burial in Bellefontaine Cemetery. Visitation will be from 3-7 p.m. on Friday, January 9, 2009 at the funeral home. Memorials may be given in Mr. Green’s name to the Diabetes Association.
