Jack Jordan South 85 of Enfield, passed away Thursday evening May 4, 2017 at St. Marys Hospital in Evansville. He was born February 1, 1932 in Enfield, the son of Curtis Royal and Laura Elizabeth (Jordan) South. He married Margaret Elizabeth Wilson on October 21, 1956 at the Enfield United Methodist Church and she preceded him in death on December 8, 2015.
Jack was a longtime farmer and Rural Mail Carrier. He was a member of the National Rural Letter Carriers Association; past president of the IL Farmer Elected Committeemen Association; IL Brown Swiss Association; and had served as a member of the Enfield School Board. He was a veteran of the United States Army, serving in North Korea where he received the Korean Service Ribbon with 2 Bronze Service Stars, the National Service Medal, United Nations Service Medal and the Combat Infantry Badge. He had memberships in the Carmi American Legion and V.F.W. He was a member of the Enfield United Methodist Church and avid supporter of the University of Illinois Fighting Illini.
He is survived by his son, David South; daughters, Kaye (Al) Schroeder and Karen (David) Whitley; grandchildren, Jacob (Kaitlin Reid) Schroeder, Keanan Schroeder and Maggie South; great granddaughter, Mercy South; brother, Bill (Lois) South and sister, Frances York; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Donna and Earl DeLong. He was preceded in death by his wife and brother, Stan South.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday May 8, 2017 at the Stendeback Family Funeral Home in Enfield with burial in Enfield Cemetery. Visitation will be from 3-7 p.m. on Sunday May 7, 2017 at the funeral home. Graveside military rites will be conducted by the Carmi American Legion and V.F.W.
