Jack E. Scurlock, age 80 of Mt. Vernon, IN, died Tuesday morning July 24, 2012 at Deaconess Hospital. He was born July 26, 1931 in Indianapolis the son of Oscar A and Myrle E. (Lawrence) Scurlock. He married Marilyn J. Harper on December 17, 1952.
Jack retired after 10 years as a custodian at MSDS. He was a journeyman machinist for many years at B&W in Mt. Vernon. He served with the United States Marines during the Korean War. He loved carpentry and restoring old cars.
He is survived by his wife Marilyn; 1 daughter and son-in-law, Debra S. and John K. McNichols of Fishers, IN; 1 son and daughter-in-law, Thomas K. and Betsy Scurlock of Evansille; 5 grandchildren, Kevin (Lessika) Eck, Brittany E. (Jeremy) Haynes, Danae D. (Andy Wilson) McNichols, Delaney J. McNichols and Katie Elise Scurlock; 2 brothers, Bermond Scurlock of Enterprise, AL and Charles “Chuck” Scurlock of Tampa, FL,; 3 sisters, Carolyn Nees of Centerpoint, IN, Rosemary Vice of Gulf Breeze, FL, and Donna Jolly of Louisville, KY.
He was preceded in death by 1 brother, Don Scurlock and 1 sister, Joyce Smith.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday July 27, 2012 at the Austin~Stendeback Family Funeral Home at 1330 E. 4th St., Mt. Vernon with burial in Bellefontaine Cemetery.
