Irene J. Brakie, 70 of Mt. Vernon, went to be with the Lord on Thursday October 29, 2015 at her home surrounded by her family and friends. She was born May 4, 1945 in Mt. Vernon, the daughter of Herman and Pearl (Phillips) Brakie.
Irene retired as a Supervisor from the Evansville Blind Association. She enjoyed reading; especially her bible, attending craft shows and loved her family very much. She was a lifelong and very active member of First Holiness Church in Mt. Vernon where she served as the Adult Sunday School Teacher and Song Leader. Irene always put the needs of others ahead of her own.
She is survived by her twin, Lorene Brakie; her aunt, Annie Thompson; numerous nieces and nephews her sister-in-law, Sue Brakie and lifelong friends, Betty Little, Bonnie Little and Linda James. She was preceded in death by her parents, sisters, Nellie Cole and Thelma Turner; brothers, Kenneth and Eugene Brakie.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Monday November 2, 2015 at the Stendeback Family Funeral Home at 1330 E. 4th St., Mt. Vernon with Rev. Ron Myers officiating. Burial will be in Bellefontaine Cemetery. Visitation will be from 3-7 p.m. on Sunday at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to First Holiness Church.
